Lt. Col. Philip Appleton, former commander of the Oregon Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 116th Cavalry, presents to Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber, the Oregon State flag, which was flown in Iraq during the unit's one-year deployment to Iraq. The unit held its demobilization ceremony at Eastern Oregon University in LaGrande, Ore., Oct. 8. From left to right: Maj. Gen. Raymond F. Rees, Adjutant General, Oregon, Governor Kitzhaber, Appleton, and unit Command Sgt. Maj. William Wyllie. During the ceremony, the unit also conducted a change of command, where Appleton relinquished command to Maj. Jason Lambert.
