Catherine Bateman, the second woman finisher, crossed the finish line of the 2011 Marine Corps Marathon Forward satellite marathon held in Kabul, Afghanistan, Oct. 30, with a time of 4 hours, 16 seconds and 37 seconds. Twenty participants began the 26.2-mile race at 6:45 a.m. The course, while flat, was at an altitude of 6,000 feet above sea level. The MCM Forward event is the first time Bateman, who works for the U.S. State Department, has taken on and completed the 26.2-mile event, completed her first 26.2-mile event.
