Johns Hopkins University classmates Goranka Henegar, (right), and Catherine Bateman, were the first two women finishers of the 2011 Marine Corps Marathon Forward satellite marathon held in Kabul, Afghanistan, Oct. 30. Henegar crossed the finish line with a time of 4 hours, 6 minutes and 4 seconds and Bateman with a time of 4:16:37. Henegar and Bateman first met each while attending graduate school during the 2005-2006 school year while both their husbands were deployed to Iraq. Both their husbands were on-hand to cheer them on and complete the MCM Forward event. Twenty participants began the 26.2-mile race at 6:45 a.m. The course, while flat, was at an altitude of 6,000 feet above sea level.
