FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii (Oct. 23, 2018) -- Pacific Ocean Division (POD) Commanding General, Brig. Gen. Thomas Tickner (right), receives an official gift from Japan Director General for Facilities and Installations, Minister’s Secretariat, Hirotomo Hirai (left). The gift, two crystal glasses adorned with intricate designs is a symbol of friendship and the U.S.-Japan alliance. The official gift exchange proceeded an office call discussion and roundtable regarding continued engineering partnership opportunities, proposed program improvements and solutions to shared challenges. Leaders from Naval Facilities Engineering Command Pacific also attended. POD, along with Japan District, conducts technical exchanges with the Japan Ministry of Defense to enhance existing bilateral relationships and to improve engineering support to U.S. and Japanese governments in execution of respective missions. This collaboration is part of a longstanding agreement between the two countries and enhances peace and security in the region.
