U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Bartow Kilgo, from Maple Lake, Minn., waits for his team to begin their seventh convoy escort mission from Camp Adder, Iraq, Oct. 28, 2011. Kilgo, who deployed as an enlisted soldier to Baghdad in 2004 then Fallujah in 2006, said “the greatest challenge about being an officer is learning a platoon’s worth of personalities, what motivates them, and how they all get along. Teamwork is make or break. ” In their first 90 days, the 1st Squadron, 94th Cavalry "Iron Rangers," 1st Brigade, 34th Infantry Division "Red Bulls" provided nearly 700,000 miles of convoy security missions for the drawdown from Iraq. The Iron Rangers average three times as many missions as their predecessors in support of Operation New Dawn.
