    U.S. Army Air Corps 1st Lt. John D. Crouchley, poses for an official photo during World War II. Crouchley was assigned to the 828th Bombardment Squadron, 485th Bombardment Group, Foggia, Italy, and went into combat in May 1944. His aircraft was shot down over Bulgaria June 28, 1944, when he and his crew were returning from a bombing mission over Romania. He was missing in action for 73 years until his partial remains were discovered by a team from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency in 2017 and positively identified in September 2018.
