181130-N-ID678-0014 ANNAPOLIS Md, (Nov 30, 2018) Turner construction employees along with U.S. Naval Academy staff await the lifting of the signed I beam during the topping out ceremony at Hopper Hall. The practice of topping out a building with an evergreen tree on the peak is a Scandinavian or Viking tradition and is commonly used to celebrate the completion of the top floor of a building. Once completed, Hopper Hall will include classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, lecture halls, offices, multi-purpose space, an observatory, loading dock, and research and testing tank in support of the engineering and weapons labs. The construction is expected to be complete by September 2020. (U.S. Navy photo by Kenneth D. Aston Jr/Released)
