Parachute riggers Cpls. Jordan Shemanski and Anthony Santos inspect a low-velocity cargo parachute aboard USS Makin Island here Nov. 30. Santos, 25, who hails from Providence, R.I., serves with Battalion Landing Team 3/1. Shemanski, 24, is from Flint, Mich., and serves with Combat Logistics Battalion 11. The team and battalion serve as the ground combat element and provide logistics and services for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit respectively. The unit embarked USS Makin Island, USS New Orleans and USS Pearl Harbor in San Diego, Nov. 14, beginning a seven-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Middle East regions.
