PENSACOLA, Fla. -- Ms. Jacqueline Hoffman, the niece of U.S. Coast Guard Ens. David A. Hoffman who was killed aboard U.S. Coast Guard Cutter (CGC) Tampa on Sept. 26, 1918, posthumously accepts the Purple Heart .from Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Commanding Officer Cmdr. Jeff Hodges during a ceremony at Veteran's Memorial Park in Pensacola, Florida, Dec. 7. Hoffman was aboard the USCGC Tampa when it was struck by a German torpedo near the end of World War I, killing all aboard.
