Chief Master Sgt. Donal Strickland, 128th Air Refueling Wing chief boom operator, documents flight information aboard a KC-135 Stratotanker Dec. 11, 2018, during a training sortie over the Pacific Ocean, near the Hawaiian Islands. The aircrew refueled F-22 Raptors from the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 199th Fighter Squadron as part of exercise Sentry Aloha. Boom operators on a KC-135 have the ability to pump thousands of pounds of fuel to any capable aircraft, thousands of feet above the ground, flying at 230 miles per hour, while only 47 feet from the receiving aircraft.
