The Purple Heart is presented to U.S Army Staff Sgt. Adam Johnson of Raleigh, N.C., 515th Engineer Company, Task Force Gridley, Task Force Sword, by U.S. Army Col. Paul Paulozzi of Utica, N.Y., commander of Task Force Sword, for injuries sustained during Operation Enduring Freedom. While conducting a route clearance patrol, Johnson’s vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device.
