Museum Educators Joseph Miechle and Zach Smyers meticulously count assorted LEGO pieces in the library of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum in preparation for the museum’s 8th Annual LEGO Brick by Brick Shipbuilding event. The event is scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 10am to 4pm at the Decker Half Moone Cruise Terminal, located next door to the museum. This years event features over 200+ Lego ship models of varying difficulty for visitors to build, LEGO free play areas with Duplo and standard Lego bricks, a hands on robotics demonstration, a LEGO model contest and exhibition and crafts for all ages. The event routinely draws in a crowd of over 2,000 visitors each year. To inquire about this upcoming event, contact their Special Events Coordinator at Thomas.Dandes@navy.mil or at (757) 322-3106. Alternately, this event is part of a successful LEGO outreach event, which brings the popular building blocks to area classrooms along with lessons that are aligned with statewide curriculum standards. To inquire, contact their Education Director at Laura.L.Orr@navy.mil or at (757) 322-3108. (US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released).
