Col. (CA) Richard Lalor, public affairs officer for Joint Forces Training Base, presents the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal to the family of Joseph DePhillips, Weds., Dec. 27, 2017, at the base in Los Alamitos, California. DePhillips, who died in 2016 at the age of 84, served in the California National Guard's 40th Infantry Division during the Korean War, but rarely spoke of the war or of his service. DePhillips' family visited the division headquarters in an effort to learn more about his past. The commemorative medal is from the Korean government and honors veterans who served in the Korean War.
