A group of four World War II veterans and 10 college students visit the Peace Prayer Park in Itoman City Dec. 11. The group came to Okinawa, after visiting Pearl Harbor, through the College of the Ozarks’ program, Patriotic Education Travel Program. Since 2009, the program sends groups of veterans and students to major battle sites throughout the world, like Pearl Harbor, Okinawa, Iwo Jima and Hiroshima. The program’s intent is to encourage the students with an understanding of American heritage, civic responsibilities, love of country and willingness to defend it.
