Up to snuff? The aptly named 'Mr. Gross Mouth' provides a visual mock-up reminder on how smokeless tobacco impacts a user's entire mouth. From cavities to tooth loss, gingivitis and gum recession, along with life threatening conditions such as cancer of the gum, cancer of the palate and cancer of the tongue, there are serious health issues for anyone who dips/chews. All of these conditions are preventable, except possibly for those who continue to use, which is where The Great American Spit Out, held on Feb. 21, 2019, can help, as the Department of Defense on-going educational campaign tailored specifically for service members to give up smokeless tobacco products. This year's theme is ‘ditch the snuff for better stuff.' Anyone who is thinking of quitting cigarettes or smokeless tobacco should contact their primary care doctor, unit/ship/boat corpsman, or call NHB’s Tobacco Cessation Facilitator office at (360) 475-4818, or the DoD website at http://www.ucanquit2.org/ (Official Navy photo by Douglas H Stutz, NHB PAO).
