    Private First Class Linton Carl Fendley, stands at the position of attention after graduating boot camp aboard Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in 1917. Fendley served with 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment at the Battle of Belleau Wood during World War I. His great-grandson, Cpl. Linton C. Sangster, is a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear defense specialist currently serving with 2/6 in Nawa district, Helmand province, Afghanistan.
