190302-M-YD783-1005 ARABIAN GULF (MARCH 2, 2019) U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Nicholas Montoya, a flightline mechanic with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepares the engine of a CH-53E Super Stallion for engine washing on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Marines attached to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 264 (Reinforced) perform routine maintenance on aircraft located on the Kearsarge to ensure they remain operationally functional throughout their time at sea. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
