The Unified Command Group (UGC), comprised of senior representatives from FEMA, USACE, and PREPA, decided to cease operation of the temporary power generation units at the Palo Seco site incrementally, March 8, 2019, San Juan, Puerto Rico. The restored power plant operated on its own one year, and six months after Hurricane Maria devastated the island and knocked down 80 percent of the power grid. The decommissioning and demobilization of the two mega-generators is a positive step in the ongoing recovery process in Puerto Rico.
