Lance Cpl. Eric P. Ewers, a military policeman with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, cleans a shipping container at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, April 22, 2019. Marines use shipping containers to transfer supplies and equipment on and off naval vessels during deployment. Ewers, a native of Spokane, Washington, graduated Gonzaga High School in June 2017 before enlisting in December later that year. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
