190506-M-YD783-1041 PERSIAN GULF (MAY 6, 2019) Petty Officer 1st Class Katy Jones, right, a Navy Corpsman with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit holds her Fleet Marine Fore pin award during a ceremony in the hangar bay of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Sailors attached to the 22nd MEU were awarded for superior performance of their duties and demonstrating knowledge and skill of the standards of Marine Expeditionary Forces warfare doctrine. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
