SAN DIEGO (May 3, 2019) – Newly-pinned Master Chief Fire Controlman Joan Buccat, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), wipes away a tear during her pinning ceremony. She was the only senior chief aboard the ship selected for advancement to master chief petty officer. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting depot-level maintenance availability.
