Roses rest in remembrance on the grave of U.S. Army Gen. George Smith Patton, Jr. at Luxembourg American Cemetery, Luxembourg, May 25, 2019. Patton led the U.S. Third Army through Europe as they liberated Europe, including the German cities of Trier, Koblenz, Bingen, Mainz, Worms and Kaiserslautern during World War II. After the Allied victory in Europe, Patton was appointed military governor of Bavaria and died in December 1945 from injuries sustained in a car accident.
