EARLE, N.J. (June 08, 2019) Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Taylor Folmar receives a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal from Commanding Officer, Capt. Greg Leland, in the ready room aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bataan (LHD 5). On March 30, 2019, Folmar, a Southport, N.C. native, was awakened by her frantic neighbor knocking on her door. The mother’s six-month old baby boy was not breathing. Relying on her medical training she received while serving onboard the Bataan, she jumped into action giving the baby CPR, keeping him stable until emergency medical arrived on the scene subsequently saving his life. Bataan is currently moored at Naval Weapons Station Earle, N.J. preparing for its upcoming deployment. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Levi Decker)
