U.S. Marine Corps Col. Roger Standfield, assistant chief of staff for Communications and Information Systems (G-6), Marine Corps Installations West (MCI-W), Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Pendleton, salutes during the National Anthem at his retirement ceremony at the Marine Corps Community Services Community Center on MCB Camp Pendleton, California, June 14, 2019. Standfield retired after 43 years of service in the United States Marine Corps.
Standfield enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1976. He was meritoriously promoted through the ranks and left active duty in August 1988 as a gunnery sergeant. He moved to Oklahoma to attend East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, and later attended Officer Candidate School where he received his commission in the summer of 1989. During his time in the Marine Corps, he traveled to many different countries such as: Indonesia, Iraq, Germany, and Afghanistan. In his retirement, Standfield hopes to revisit all the places he has traveled once more.
“I love the Marine Corps, I love Marines,” Standfield said. “They’re the best fighting animals, the best individuals you could possibly get.”
