Recently, a Private Second Class (not pictured) from the Virginia Army National Guard was promoted to Private 1st Class prior two days after leaving for Basic Training at Fort Jackson in April. Thanks to IPPS-A, the Private First Class was promoted in IPPS-A on April 16, 2019. The transaction was validated by G1/USPFO on April 17, 2019 and the Soldier's Master Pay Account/DJMS-RC was instantly updated with the new grade the same day. In the legacy environment, a Soldier would travel to Basic Training with a DA Form 4187 signifying his or her promotion. This paperwork would be processed at the reception battalion and then taken to the local finance office for entry to update the Soldier's rank and pay. (Photo Credit: Tami Murphy, Army)
