Illinois Army National Guard Pvt. Masood Ahmed of Naperville, a member of A Battery, 1st Battalion of the 122nd Field Artillery, leads the color guard at the re-dedication ceremony for the Victory Monument on Chicago's Southside. The monument honors the World War I service of the Illinois National Guard's famed 8th Infantry Regiment. The all African-American 8th Infantry were known as the "Black Devils" by the Germans because of their soldiers' dogged determined fighting spirit. These Soldiers were still pursuing the fleeing Germans in the Aisne-Marne region just before the Armistice took effect on November 11, 1918.
