Mortars from 1st Battalion, 279th Infantry, Oklahoma National Guard light up the area around the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team area of operations with 120mm parachute illumination flares on 24 July, at Camp Grayling, Mich. as part of Exercise Northern Strike 19. Northern Strike is one of the largest reserve component exercises supported by the U.S. Department of Defense. Its mission is to maximize the full-spectrum combat readiness of National Guard units through realistic, cost-effective joint fires training in an adaptable environment, with an emphasis on cooperation between joint and coalition forces.
