    Exercise Balikatan

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Robert Jarvis (second from left), a firefighter from the 18th Civil Engineering Squadron, determines the best path to take during a simulated aircraft survivor rescue at Clark Air Base with Philippine Air Force Staff Sgt. Arthuro L. Sumilhig (second from right), firefighter from the Philippine Air Force’s 600th Air Base Wing, Aug. 20, during Exercise Balikatan 2012. “They are very knowledgeable, working with them is very easy,” said Jarvis. “We both have different aircraft so this exercise is a good way to learn the different ways we train and share the hazards, tactics and strategies for aircraft rescue.” Balikatan is an annual Republic of the Philippines-U.S. military exercise focusing on field training, humanitarian assistance and a command post exercise. Additionally, it increases our armed forces’ ability to respond quickly and work together efficiently to provide relief and assistance in the event of natural disasters and other crises.
