Indiana Army National Guard Capt. Chelsea Smith, a 38th Infantry Division judge advocate general officer from Knightstown, Indiana, traveled to a combat zone to provide special victims' counsel to a client.
"I support Task Force Spartan as the special victims' counsel by advocating for and protecting the rights of victims of sexual assault, which contributes to soldier readiness and supports the military justice process," said Smith, who lives in Indianapolis.
According to the National Guard website special victims' counsels are authorized by law to enter into attorney-client relationships in order to zealously and independently represent their clients using specialized training to best support the client.
"I also assist victims with obtaining access to all of the resources available to them so they can cope with what has happened. In addition to special victims' counsel, I serve as an ethics counselor for Task Force Spartan," said Smith.
Task Force Spartan grows and maintains government relationships across the Middle East through planning and operations with nation partners in the region.
