“I’ve had four brain surgeries, a lot of spine surgeries, and I’ve broken my neck four times. I was actually bitter for a very long time, but, honestly, my husband and my kids pulled me out of it. For a while you’re like, ‘This sucks,’ but it didn’t get me anywhere. We had to really pray, though. It was some serious praying. When they tell you there’s no cure for your brain disease, you know, you kind of take that in and say, ‘Well, do I want to go backwards and get bitter or do I want to go forward and keep having a positive attitude?’ My oldest had to grow up a little bit more than usual kids. We had to medevac four times, and they had to learn how to call 911 early and learn how to handle seizures. It’s amazing to see how they are. They take it, and they actually grow.
This week, if they say everything’s good and the C1 is almost healed, we can start taking the neck brace off. I’m like, ‘Man, it’s been almost four years having this thing on.’ It’s just amazing, though. I can’t wait to start school.”
