“I do Muay Thai three times a week, and I do Jiu-Jitsu twice a week. I’ve been doing it since August 2018, so not too long. Going there is definitely a release. Just last week, we had a patient who wasn’t so happy with us, and the negativity of that person came onto us. Then I got to go to the gym, and it’s definitely a mind-clearing exercise. You don’t have to actually go and hurt a person; you can go and kick a pad. It’s taught me to not underestimate people from what you see. We have smaller people who can take you down with no problem, and you wouldn’t be able to tell from just looking at them.
I feel like more people should do it and not look at it as a brainless activity. People think, ‘Oh, you only do it to hurt people.’ A lot of people either do it for exercise or to keep themselves from being hurt if that situation happens. So that’s one of the biggest things I feel people should do, is to not look at it as a weapon but as something to help you find peace within yourself.”
