FORT BENNING, Ga. – At Fort Benning Oct. 26, young adults who have declared their intention of joining the U.S. Army listen to a drill sergeant talk about barracks life and other aspects of undergoing Army basic training. The group of more than 100 were what the Army calls Future Soldiers, those who have enrolled in the Army’s Delayed Entry Program. They’re then allowed to continue school or other activities for a period of up to one year, after which they would enter training. The visit was organized by the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion-Atlanta in partnership with Fort Benning’s 1st Squadron, 16th Cavalry Regiment, part of Fort Benning’s Maneuver Center of Excellence.
