Steffen, relieved Cmdr. Benjamin J. Selph as Olympia's commanding officer. The 35-year-old Olympia was commissioned on Nov. 17, 1984, and is scheduled to begin the inactivation and decommissioning process at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
