    Idaho Army National Guard

    Leonard “Len” Brown, 90, U.S.Navy 1946 - 54.

Brown was born and raised in Boise. His only time away from Boise were the eight years he spent in the Navy.

He was trained as a sonar man first serving on the destroyer USS Duncan, DD874. The ship was assigned duties in the Pacific. The Duncan was later decommissioned in 1971, struck from the Naval Register in 1974, and sunk as a target off the California coast in 1980. From the Duncan, Brown went aboard another destroyer, the USS Tucker, DD 875. He served in the Korean War

He took up electronics work and television repair and eventually joined the Idaho Air National Guard at Gowen Field in Boise. He spent 35 years on Gowen as the base electrician. He credits the Navy for teaching him electronics and helping him establish a life career.
