Vientiane, Laos (Nov. 14, 2019) -- Brig. Gen. Thomas Tickner (third from right), Pacific Ocean Division(POD) commanding general, along with Mark Ahlstrom (second from right), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers senior risk advisor and dam safety expert, and Evan Ting (far right), POD chief of International Cooperation, stand alongside members of the Lao Ministry of Energy and Mines today. The team stands in front of a mural depicting the vision for Laos - a balance between being the "Battery of Asia" and preserving the nation’s beauty to create harmony and prosperity for the people of Lao. Currently, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is assisting the Lao government to enhance their national dam safety program by providing subject matter experts to work alongside others from the international community in reviewing Laos' emergency dam safety inspection reports. Ahlstrom, along with other members of USACE have been an integral piece in the U.S. government's effort to support Laos' dam safety initiative since the spring of 2019. (Courtesy photo)
