WASHINGTON (Dec. 5, 2019) Retired Adm. John Harvey (left) applauds following the presentation of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Thomas Evert Petri (center) and Lou Podolske (right) during an awards cermony at the capital building Dec. 5. Petri and Podolske accepted the award on behalf Lt. Thomas Evert, Petri's late father and Podolske's cousin. Evert was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for actions in World War II when a he and the crew of PB4Y Liberator bomber sank a German U-boat. Naval History and Heritage Command located at the Washington Navy Yard, is responsible for the preservation, analysis and dissemination of U.S. naval history and heritage.
