U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Augusto Zapata stands on a beach in Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 10, 2019. Zapata, a native of Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico, is the chief instructor of the Amphibious Raids Branch’s small boat section for Expeditionary Operations Training Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force.

“We provide a special skillset to the MEF at EOTG,” Zapata said. “[We] further the capabilities of the ground combat element and all the other supporting units, which overall supports the full spectrum of operations in the Indo-Pacific.”

Zapata recently led helocast training in order to familiarize Marines with waterborne insertions and recovery techniques. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Destiny Dempsey)
