U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Dalvin Stewart, a postal clerk with Headquarters and Support Battalion Post Office shares his unique experience working with Marines and locals and how it impacts him and the community.
According to Stewart, the post office handles the civilians, contractors, and military members mail. His role is to distribute, ship and collect the mail. He also works with customers to help set up their packaged items, ensuring the process is done correctly.
“I have a really strong relationship with the Japanese locals I work with, and they teach the Marines a lot about their culture,” he said. “I can always have personal talks with them and ask any questions I might have throughout the day. I love working here because the energy within postal is great. Were always working hard and moving fast."
The Marines at postal have the unique opportunity to work with the local community and play a role in the military communities ability to communicate with friends and family through mail.
“Here at postal, we show a helping hand to all customers,” said Stewart. “This job is important to me because I am able to be the piece that connects people here on Okinawa to their loved ones back home.”
