Retired U.S. Navy Capt. Don Walsh—one of two men to first venture to the deepest part of the ocean—speaks at a Jan. 23 event commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Trieste dive. The celebration was held at the National Museum of the U.S. Navy in Washington, D.C. On Jan. 23, 1960, Walsh and Swiss engineer Jacques Piccard descended seven miles to the bottom of the Challenger Deep, the deepest part of the ocean. (U.S. Navy photo by Bobby Cummings)
