200203-N-N0101-1303 NAVAL BASE GUAM (Feb. 3, 2020) Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Jonathan Shewchuk and Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Brian Beale conducting embalming preparation on fallen service member at the Naval Hospital in Guam. Although unknown to most Sailors, Navy morticians perform a mission that has some of the most far-reaching impacts of any career field in the service. They provide dignity, honor and respect for fallen service members, and more importantly, a sense of closure for grieving families. As the only uniformed morticians in the Department of Defense, they possess a level of education, training and experience far above that of most Sailors in the fleet.
