An F/A-18F Super Hornet F414 jet engine throttles to afterburner while being tested on the fantail aboard Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis. Jet engines are tested by Stennis' aircraft intermediate maintenance department's jet engine repair shop to ensure they are in perfect working order before being reinstalled into aircraft. Stennis and Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9 are on a scheduled deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism and maritime operations.
