SOUTH CHINA SEA (March 15, 2020) A Marine with Scout Sniper Platoon, Weapons Company, Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), adjusts the scope of his M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System while providing aerial sniper coverage for a simulated visit, board, search and seizure of the Ticonderoga-class guided missile-cruiser USS Bunker Hill (CG 52) out of the window of a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), 31st MEU, after departing amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). Operating as an Expeditionary Strike Force, the Navy-Marine Corps team integrates the combat power of the Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group with the flexible capability of the America Expeditionary Strike Group and 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit to provide the fleet commander with a capable, credible combat force that can be deployed anywhere in the world.
