U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Kayla Chappell, the staff noncommissioned officer in charge of Recruiting Sub-station (RSS) Arnold, Recruiting Station (RS) St. Louis, poses for a photo in St. Louis, Mo., March 25, 2020. Chappell is a native of Monroe, Mich. and was recruited from RSS Southgate, RS Detroit. Chappell
is not the first in her family to serve their country, her family has a background in the Navy and her father served in the Army. When asked about her decision to join the Marine Corps, she said it was an easy one. Ultimately what she said made the decision so easy was how elite the Marine Corps is and the recruiters willingness to show her how the Marine Corps could help her achieve future goals making them that much more of a reality vice a dream. Beyond that she said it was the fact that she knew that this would be something that would allow her to grow as a young woman in both confidence and comfort levels. She stated that she has gained limitless opportunities since enlisting in the Marine Corps, some among various others include: attending college debt free, financial stability, travel, new relationships, and the opportunity to have a career where she feels like she doesn’t have to work a day in her life because she thoroughly enjoys and is passionate about what she does.
