Thomas Edison didn’t invent the lightbulb. However, his design created the standardization that we know today; the E26 base, which laid the ground word for standardization and mass production. From that design, countless light bulbs were produced. This chart shows that from Edison’s initial design, different styles of light bulb evolved to meet new needs; from variations in brightness to power consumption, without having to start from scratch. Open Systems Architecture, or OSA, aims to be the “E26 base” of software and hardware not only for the Army, but across the branches. Illustration by Justin Rakowski.
