U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. Thomas A. Bussiere is awarded the Alaska Legion of Merit during a change of command ceremony April 20, 2020, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. Bussiere received the medal from Mike Dunleavy, Governor of the state of Alaska, who was unable to attend the event. The Alaska Legion of Merit medal honors members who carry out extraordinarily distinguished or meritorious service on behalf of the State. Due to physical restrictions of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the virtual change of command ceremony was presided over via video teleconference by Air Force Gen. Terrence O’Shaughnessy, commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command and United States Northern Command, and Air Force Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Pacific Air Forces commander.
