“There’s plenty of moments where there’s close calls, right? So, the not knowing of whether today’s the day, that’s across the board. Everybody feels the same thing. At any moment you can get hit, you can get IEDed, you can get mortared, you can get this or that. And that’s just part of the job. My brother, he was hurt. I was actually at my civilian job. But I think that probably was the worst day: hearing that he got hit. Because initially the report was that he lost all his limbs. It was just the worst report. I kept calling and hearing, 'hey four limbs, hey three limbs, oh wait two.' And it was because he was bleeding out of all of his extremities. But I think that that would probably have to be the number one. It didn’t happen to me, but as a Soldier we know that at any time something can happen to us. But when you have a buddy or a family member, that’s different. And that was early on too. So right after he got hit, we went to Walter Reed, then Brooke Army Medical Center. We followed him all the way. We had family there the whole time. Then, three months thereafter then I got deployed to Iraq. So, it was a difficult time for my family.”
