Capt. John Bang, 23rd Space Operations Squadron Detachment 1 commander, is the last uniformed member to serve in the role of commander at Det. 1 on Thule Air Base, Greenland. The position will transition to a government civilian to increase continuity and longevity. The detachment’s primary duty is to provide telemetry, tracking and commanding operations to the United States and allied government satellite programs.
