April has been recognized as Alcohol Awareness Month since 1987. It was established by the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence to spread information on the dangers of alcohol and the issues it can cause. According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, more than 14.8 million people aged 12 and older had an alcohol abuse disorder during 2018. Alcohol Awareness Month helps ensure that families and communities have the resources, information, and options available to help control alcohol abuse. (U.S. Marine Corps graphic by Lance Cpl.
