"I initially turned down this position because I was already part of the emergency response team and I saw how victims were handled, I was frustrated with it.
Someone who knew me well and knew that I was passionate about victim recovery asked me, 'how will the victim’s voice be heard if you’re not at the table?' I applied for the position hoping I could make a difference for victims of sexual assault and to be their voice in a time when theirs was not heard.
I love my job but it can be very stressful. When I need to unwind, I have a motorcycle I like to ride. I have always loved motorcycles, and I love the outdoors, so riding through the country on a nice day is so freeing. Sometimes I’ll take a trip, but most of the time I just ride around the area. It just helps me clear my mind.
I’ve been doing this work now for over 15 years, and I do believe God has given me a grace to do it. That being said, I still am very much impacted by the stories that I hear but more affected by how this crime impacts our clients. Some worse than others, but all are affected. However, my feelings do not overshadow or diminish the passion I also feel to help someone get through it. That’s grace."
