200408-N-EJ843-0048 GROTON, Conn. (Apr. 08, 2020)- Simone Contimo, a tailor at the Navy Exchange Uniform Shop, sews together a face covering for personnel assigned to Naval Submarine Base (SUBASE) New London and tenant commands. Cutting, folding, sewing, and pressing materials ranging from new sheets to t-shirts, the Uniform Shop has been producing nearly 100 facial coverings a day since all service members, government civilians and contractors, and family members on DoD property, installations, and facilities were directed to wear facial coverings when proper physical distancing is not possible. For SUBASE New London, COVID-19 mitigation efforts such as facial coverings help ensure the base and personnel are healthy and ready to support the essential mission, providing national security and defense when needed.
